What is E-Commerce?

Introduction
Commerce started ever since ancient time. Commerce is a division of trade which deals with the exchange of goods and services from the producer or the supplier to the end user which is the consumer. Commerce functions as the fundamental mechanism whcih drives capalism and other economic system.


Definition: E-commerce is also known as electronic commerce or EC is the buying and selling of goods and services on the Internet, especially the World Wide Web (WWW). In actual fact, this term and a newer term, e-business, are often used interchangably.


Below is a summary of the history and evolution of e-Commerce



EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange. It is the transfer of data between two different enterprises using networks. As time goes by, when there are more and more companies get linked by the internet, EDI is becoming an easy merchanism for company or firm to buy, trade, sell or exchange information with one another. To improve the performance of EDI, ANSI has approved a set of EDI standards known as the ACS x12 standards for transferring large amount transactions. ACS x12 existed since 1984.
In the year 1992, Mosaic, the 1st pointn and click web browser has been created. It is also the 1st widely-distributed graphical browser for the World Wide Web. Mosaic was invented by Marc Andreessen in 1992.
7years later, Napster was founded. Then a year later, AOL and Time Warner merged. Many websites then became popular such as Yahoo, Ebay, Firefox and etc.

In short, e-Commerce has started ever since 1960s and slowly evolute till what it is now. It will continue improve and change and continue attract more users to use the e-Commerce.
